All of the rumors are true! Italy is magical!

There’s something incredibly special about traveling with lifelong friends—especially when those friendships span over 20 years. Recently, we had the pleasure of embarking on a couples trip to Italy, and I can honestly say it was one of best trips we’ve ever taken.

As a travel advisor, I had the privilege of planning our custom itinerary with the help of Charme & Adventure, a trusted DMC partner I work with. They created an experience so thoughtfully tailored to our interests, it felt as though Italy herself was welcoming us with open arms. Every detail was handled with such care that we felt less like tourists and more like honored guests.

A Warm Welcome to Venice

After a long overnight flight, we arrived in Venice to find a kind gentleman holding a sign with our names. He greeted us with a warm smile and escorted us to a luxurious black Mercedes van. From there, we were transferred to a private boat taxi—a beautiful moment where the water gently greeted us, and the city began to unfold before our eyes.

Our destination was the exquisite Ca’ di Dio hotel, and from the moment we arrived, we knew we were in for something truly special. Nestled in a peaceful corner of Venice, Ca’ di Dio manages to feel both timeless and quietly luxurious. Originally a spiritual retreat, the hotel’s thoughtful restoration pays homage to its history while offering serene, contemporary elegance.

Our rooms overlooked quiet canals, and the early mornings were a true highlight—breakfast in the hotel’s tranquil courtyard was a daily ritual we came to cherish. Fresh pastries, fruit, and Italian coffee under the morning sun made us feel like we had all the time in the world. It was a gentle, beautiful start to each day.

Venice Through the Eyes of a Local

Our first full day in Venice was spent with Federica, or "Fede" as we called her. By the first few minutes together she felt like an old friend, pointing out where her family home was, gesturing towards a nearby canal. With her, Venice came alive in the most charming and meaningful way.

She began by teaching us the art of Italian coffee with what became our new standard coffee drink, a espresso macchiato . From there, she led us through the heart of Venice, weaving through narrow alleys and over sunlit bridges, revealing both iconic landmarks and hidden treasures.

We explored the splendor of St. Mark’s Basilica, stood in awe at the Doge’s Palace, and lingered at the Rialto Bridge, eventually ending the tour riding a gondolas below. But what made it truly special was how Fede shared her love for her city. Her stories, insights, and laughter added so much depth to our experience—we felt deeply connected, not just to Venice, but to her.

Murano & Burano: A Day of Beauty and Craftsmanship

Later in the trip, we visited the nearby islands of Murano and Burano, each with its own unique magic. Murano amazed us with the artistry of its glassmakers—watching them at work was like witnessing poetry in motion. Burano, with its joyful rainbow-colored homes and delicate lace-making traditions. But what stole our hearts was the Michelin star lunch recommended to us by the hotel concierge.

Getting there was a breeze, but on the return journey, we decided to try public water transit—which, while an adventure and certainly cheaper, was definitely less relaxing after a full day of exploring. Next time, I’ll be sure to arrange a private water taxi for a smoother return, and it’s something I always recommend for my clients now.

This trip was the perfect beginning to our Italian journey, and we’re still holding onto the warmth and wonder of every moment. We felt so well cared for, so welcomed—it was as if Italy herself was hosting us.
